What is the difference between Probate and Letters of Administration

When a person dies but does not leave a will, a person of a specific class (an administrator) may make an application through an attorney to take responsibility of the property of the deceased (the estate) and distribute it to the beneficiaries according to the law. This is what is called "letters of administration " Where a person dies and leave leaving a will, then the named executor is charged with the duty of applying through an attorney to have the estate probated and shared (devised) among the person who are entitled under the will in the manner in which the deceased person intended. This is called "grant of probate"
